Amy Winehouse’s Birthday Celebrated with Tony Bennett Duet Release

September 14th, 2011- Happy Birthday, Amy Winehouse. At least, it would have been. The award winning singer would have turned 28, today, had it not been for her untimely death, almost 2 months ago.

To celebrate her birthday, her duet (Body and Soul) with Tony Bennet premiered at 6 a.m. on MTV, VH1, MTV Hits and mtvU and will be repeated on an hourly basis throughout the morning, after which it will be available online on MTV.com. The single was also released, today, and is available on iTunes

“I was in New York when I received the terrible news about Amy,” said her father, Mitch, in a statement announcing the launch of a charity he’s started for her. “It was almost instantaneous, this feeling that we need to help people she cared about. Amy was very generous and we kept coming back to the thought of how much she loved children. It seemed appropriate that the focus of our work should be with young people, those who are vulnerable either through ill health or circumstance. Amy touched millions throughout the world and I know she will continue to, through the Foundation.”

Mitch also said that an eerie black butterfly appeared during the services that took place after her death. Is Winehouse still flying and singing about, somewhere? It would be nice to think so, wouldn’t it?
