Fight SOPA! Keep the Internet Tubes the Way they Are!
Hey everyone! Chris and Kris here. Just wanted to touch on the last story we wrote, in which we referenced the SOPA blackout. For those who don’t know what that means, SOPA is a the “Stop Online Piracy Act” and the blackout that is going on all over the internet.
To educate you a bit on SOPA, it is an act that will severely change the internet as we know it. Originally proposed in the Fall of 2011, SOPA threatens to block any sites that link to or use other sites’ information. It also looks to fine or jail the owners of those sites. Well, nearly EVERYTHING on the web has been borrowed and reinterpreted by another site. So, this creates a huge problem, especially for small start-ups like ours! We don’t have the press power to interview top celebrities, so most of our information comes from referencing other sites, as we’re sure you’ve seen before. And, our stock photos are generally from free stock photo sites as we simply need to credit the photographer.
But, this isn’t as small as one site trying to get off of the ground. This is a huge undertaking and will simply make it harder for folks to do business in an online environment. Of course, the federal government will have to employ thousands, which is great if you’re a senator’s daughter. But, odds are, it probably won’t help you or I!
We try to be as unbiased as possible, here, at Bold Magazine. But, unfortunately, this issue hits pretty close to home. So, if you’d like to learn more about SOPA, check out the ONLY wikipiedia article running, today:

And, be sure to contact your local congress representative and tell them how you feel. And, of course, BE BOLD!
